Boston Community Leadership Academy:  Europe Trip

Boston Community Leadership Academy (BCLA), a small Boston Public high school dedicated to promoting leadership through experiential learning, is organizing a tour of four European countries (Germany, Hungary, Poland, and the Czech Republic) impacted by the Holocaust.

This program has three major goals:

  1. 1)To enhance the students’ understanding of the historical context of

Night, Elie Wiesel's account of his experiences during the Holocaust

  1. 2)To develop students’ awareness and respect for the past in the

hopes that they will consider their roles as global citizens, who are

    responsible for preventing future genocide.

  1. 3)To offer the opportunity to travel internationally to students who

otherwise would not have the resources to do so.

As part of this project, students will engage in specific learning activities before, during, and after the trip that are designed to deepen their understanding about the Holocaust and other genocides.  More broadly, these learning activities will encourage students to develop an understanding of how they can use their voices and knowledge to help prevent such atrocities in the future.

quote of the day

“To forget would not only be dangerous but offensive; to forget the dead would be akin to killing them a second time.”    -- Elie Wiesel
